Reading List for Introduction to Marine Data Management I or II

The half of knowledge, is knowing where to find knowledge

To take either of these courses, you need to read about 20 articles in the OceanTeacher Academy Digital Library; they are not in MDL.  You don't need to memorize anything, and you should focus only on the articles linked below.  The top-level structure of the Library is indicated just to help you understand the overall content.  Feel free to explore the entire resource (i.e. the 250 other articles) on your own time.  Ask your instructor if you have questions, or use the Digital Library's search function to find items of interest.  Quoted items are taken verbatim (or nearly so) from the Library.

  • Marine Data Management - Main entry point for the library; you can navigate down to the articles, or use the direct links below.
  • Real-World Projects
    • Argo - Argo is a globalarray of 3,000 free-drifting profiling floats that measures thetemperature and salinity of the upper 2000 m of the ocean.  Please just look over the very top level material for a general idea of what this program provides, and how many floats are the goal.
    • GTSPP - The Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Program.  Just read over the top-level material.
